 "Unlocking Potential: Elevating Open Institutional Repositories in Africa 
 for Global Impact"\n\nSomaliREN is pleased to coordinate local participati
 on in the UbuntuNet Alliance IOI Librarian Training 2026\, a three-day reg
 ional capacity-building workshop for librarians and information profession
 als working with institutional repositories across African higher educatio
 n and research institutions.\nInstitutional repositories are central to ho
 w universities collect\, preserve\, and share their research - but many ar
 e held back by inconsistent metadata\, weak interoperability\, low researc
 her engagement\, and limited visibility on regional and global discovery p
 latforms. This training equips librarians and repository managers with the
  practical skills and strategic understanding to turn their repositories i
 nto dynamic\, discoverable\, and sustainable infrastructure for Open Scien
 ce and African scholarship.\nWhat the training covers\nRepository governan
 ce and management\, metadata creation and quality assurance\, persistent i
 dentifiers\, content workflows\, copyright and licensing\, researcher enga
 gement strategies\, and approaches to improving repository interoperabilit
 y\, discoverability\, and long-term sustainability. The training is practi
 cal and participatory - combining demonstrations\, peer learning\, and ins
 titutional experience-sharing - and closes with participants identifying c
 oncrete next steps for their own repositories.\nWho should attend\nSomaliR
 EN is inviting each member institution to nominate one librarian or reposi
 tory manager to represent it at this training. Nominees should be actively
  involved in\, or responsible for\, their institution's repository or scho
 larly communication activities.\nNominations close Monday\, 31 August 2026
