Description

Welcome to the Network Operations and SomaliREN Services Mastery Workshop, hosted by SomaliREN, the Somali Research and Education Network, in collaboration with Zone 2 members. This two-day training, scheduled for December 14-15, 2024, in Garowe and 17 and 18 December in Bosaso, Puntland, is specifically designed for ICT Directors, Network Administrators, and System Engineers from universities. The course aims to enhance participants’ technical expertise in network operations while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to master SomaliREN’s suite of services.

The training provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with both virtual and physical equipment, exploring real-world scenarios through interactive labs, demonstrations, and collaborative projects. The curriculum is focused on two core areas:

Network Operations Mastery: Participants will delve into networking fundamentals, including switching, routing, security, wireless technologies, IPv6, and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). Hands-on exercises in troubleshooting and network design will empower participants to build and manage robust campus networks.

SomaliREN Services Proficiency: This segment of the training introduces SomaliREN’s tools and platforms, such as Identity Federation (SIF), eduroam, Filesender, and the Somali Research and Education Repository (SORER). The program also covers event management systems, video conferencing tools, and eduVPN, providing practical knowledge to help universities fully leverage these resources for enhanced collaboration and operational efficiency.

By the end of this intensive two-day training, participants will have a strong foundation in network operations and the confidence to effectively utilize SomaliREN’s services. This dual focus ensures that institutions can meet their digital transformation goals while fostering seamless connectivity and resource sharing within the Somali research and education community.

We are excited to have you join us in this focused and impactful learning journey and look forward to your active participation!
