Networking 201: Inter-VLAN Routing Masterclass
Are your devices stuck in the same flat network? It's time to level up!
Join us for a hands-on 2-hour session where you will learn how to segment networks using VLANs and enable inter-VLAN communication using two industry-standard methods — Router on a Stick (ROAS) and Switched Virtual Interfaces (SVI).
Whether you're studying for your CCNA or working in network administration, this session will give you the practical skills to design, configure, and troubleshoot real-world routed VLAN networks.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this 2-hour session, participants will be able to:
1. Define VLANs and explain why they are used in network segmentation
2. Create and name VLANs on a Cisco switch
3. Assign switch ports to VLANs (access and trunk ports)
4. Configure Router on a Stick (ROAS) using sub-interfaces on a router
5. Configure Switched Virtual Interfaces (SVIs) on a Layer 3 switch
6. Verify inter-VLAN routing using ping and show commands
7. Understand the differences, advantages, and use cases of ROAS vs SVI
Prerequisites
• Basic understanding of IP addressing and subnetting
• Familiarity with Cisco IOS CLI (basic navigation)
• Understanding of Layer 2 switching concepts
