Workshop Overview

Cyber-attacks have major implications for individuals, governments, and businesses. No one can afford to be complacent about cyber security.

The workshop is intended to introduce some of the most significant issues, challenges and opportunities regarding Cybersecurity ecosystem in Somalia and the Ministry’s initiatives to combat cyber threats.

This 3-day workshop aims to give the participants the basic background needed to understand and learn the trends of Cyber-security; explore emerging cyber-security risks, types of cyber-attacks and the impact that they can have on their institutions, and the specific threats posed by new technologies.

The participants of the workshop will also learn the government initiative on cyber-security such as the upcoming policies, strategies and cybercrime legislation.

Finally, this workshop will provide an opportunity for the participants to discuss, share experiences and explore solutions cyber threats.

Learning Objectives

The objective of the Cyber Security Training workshop is to provide public sector with a general understanding of the threats to cyber/information security that they face, and help them to identify the threats and vulnerabilities to their Institution’s information assets, and respond to them appropriately including detailing the countermeasures that can be adopted.

 

The specific objectives of this workshop will be the following:

  • Define cybersecurity and describe key terms
  • Compare and contrast types of attacks
  • Explore threat actor types and vectors
  • Describe social engineering and how it is used in phishing and vishing attacks.
  • Describe the CIA triad and what is meant by confidentiality, integrity and availability.
  • Explain the importance of policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Summarize regulations, standards, and frameworks to enhance security in the digital environment.
  • Explore risk management for a more robust security posture.
  • Carry out best practices for data security and privacy compliance.

Training Justification,

A cybersecurity training workshop is a powerful way to educate and empower government ICT employees with the current cyber threat landscape in order to reduce the risk of cyberattacks and engrain a strong security culture within these institutions.

Training Approach and Methodology,

The training facilitators will use case studies, technical presentations, video demonstrations, and group discussions to give participants different learning experiences.
